About Canvas John
Canvas John started his career in 1985 as a graduate of the Washburne Trade School in Chicago, Illinois. After completing his apprenticeship working for a small auto upholstery company in Chicago, John started his own business in 1986 working out of a maintenance shop in the back of a marina, it was there that he learned about custom canvas for boats and all the accessories. John has been working in the Sarasota area for many years. In 1992, John started Absolute Canvas and Upholstery in Knoxville and continued to work in Florida when visiting. In 2017 John relocated to Florida's Gulf Coast full time and the business was renamed Canvas John.
His reputation for high quality workmanship grew throughout the canvas and upholstery industries as a skilled custom fabricator with the knowledge and style to take on any size project.

Since 1996, John has branched off into other industries such as upholstery for doctors' patient tables, dentist chairs, clinic furniture and cubical panels, storefront awnings, restaurant canopies and indoor/outdoor enclosures, window trims, animal shelters and kennel covers, along with many other types of projects. Canvas John has become one of the country's leading mobile custom canvas and upholsterers serving the Eastern United States. John's new home base is now in Florida, but with the help of the Can Van, John will travel where ever is needed to work on your project.
